Wouldn't Have Guessed

I love how God can use the most unusable people for his great purpose. Moses, a “clumsy speaker,” was used to lead millions of people. David, a young shepherd boy, became a warrior and king. This was all possible because of God who made us for a purpose and has a plan we would never dream of.

Let me share a personal experience. I’d asked God what to do with the singing voice he gave me, which I wanted to use for his purposes. I sang in church a few times and enjoyed it, but wasn’t sure it was where God wanted me. Finally I asked, “Do you want me to sing in church?” The response was “Not there.” “Then where?” I asked, imagining it would be live jazz somewhere, or maybe writing my own songs …maybe in hospitals. “I’ll show you,” was the reply. All I could do was wait.

One day, a friend asked me, “Have you ever considered singing with the kids in our church program?” I laughed at her. “NO!” I firmly rejected the ridiculous idea. No way in a million years would I do that! ‘Not for me’ I thought. ‘I don’t have the heart for it.’ I’ve never really been one to ‘hang out’ with kids and savor every minute with them. At arms-length and in small doses, kids are fine, but daycare, children’s ministry, and writing kids’ books have not been a goal of mine.

Four days later, I spoke with the Sunday School Coordinator about how I could help. “I definitely don’t want a teaching position; ideally something behind the scenes.” “I have just the thing for you … how about leading the kids in song?” I was amazed that there was no objection in my spirit. I was calm and interested. I actually wanted to do it. I was in absolute awe at the strange heart change that took place, and only in four days! I took the position and you know what? God gave me the heart for it! Amazing! I want to do it, I enjoy singing praises with these kids and teaching them from God’s word, and I’m excited for next week!

Two weeks later, I realize that I had misunderstood God’s answer. He didn’t want me to not sing in church, just ‘not there’ – not on stage Sunday morning. He wanted me to sing with the kids. He promised to ‘show me’ where, and he did!

I am in awe of what God can do when we just let him work in our hearts. Praise the Lord for his faithfulness! I’m honored to be in his will, honored to walk in his purpose for me. I don’t know how long this will be my purpose, but right now I’m where he wants me, and that is all the reason I need to do it with all my heart. Amen!

Good morning Kim...
Wow you blessed me this morning. I havej so much to do today but I am needing to stop and share some of my challenges and struggles in the midst of learning to follow after my God, who like you say is so faithful inspite of our 'humanity'. I have been waking up so discouraged, so displaced here in this big city. Where is God in all of this? Yesterday I said to Wes...we really need to take some time and pray together..I am so discouraged about not hearing anything regarding work...getting everything organized for Rebekah school and medical wise...well there always seem to be walls I crash into and last week I promised God and myself that I would look to Him instead of getting disgruntled...sounds good...I am learning to let go but I admit I have to work on trusting 100%...anyway yesterday after we spent some time in prayer and Wes had gone to work...God began to open doors...first our 'basement dweller' 1.Rebekah(her parents own this house) knocked on the door and handed me a slip of paper with some information regarding some contacts for the Christian school down the road from us...I had already sent them a resume on Tuesday...
2.God closed the door to the Catholic System for Rebekah...by a phone call I was waiting on...
3. Got a phone call from the children's hospital...Rebekah has an appointment Monday at 3....this opens the doors to all the specialists she needs...
4. Had an e-mail regarding an interview this next week with Calgary Board of Education...
OK so God got my attention big time..now I have to deal with the reality of Satan taunting me to get stressed regarding the interview but God and I are going to have a chat this morning and I am trusting Him to look after that detail...
5. Just this past week Tuesday at our ladies morning study I asked for prayer regarding my relationship to Sarah...when she read on facebook yesterday morning that I was going to our ladies retreat this weekend she called and said.."Mom..I just read on facebook you're going away this weekend...Shane and I are coming..we were going to surprize you..." Wow...discovered through a later conversation that they are also coming for Thanksgiving...this is a huge change from our chat earlier this month....
Kim last year when we did Beth Moore one of the verses I claimed was Jabez' prayer.."Bless me and enlarge my territory" Did I then even imagine that I would end up in Calgary...God does have a sense of humor...ok so He has definitely blessed me and has definitely enlarged my territory...it came to me just the other day...oh my goodness God answered my prayer and heard my heart's cry...God is doing that for you too in ministering to the children in CFC..that is so awesome...you have grown so much since we met three years ago...keep in touch friend!!! That's great Kim! I agree whole-heartedly when you said, "I am in awe of what God can do when we just let him work in our hearts."
I'd like to encourage you to continue allowing God to pull these nuggets of "ah-hah" moments out of you. No matter what God wants to do in our hearts, He cannot unless we are open to Him and His will. It's a Blessing and a Comfort to recognize His voice and to follow it as a sheep would follow his shepherd. It's great to hear how these biblical truths have been personalized for you in the year 2009!!!

I also think it's fantastic that you see your purpose through a servants-heart..."where do you want me to be" as opposed to simply saying "this is what I want to do, now can you make it work for me". When you are open to His will, you just have to sit back and listen for His still, small voice.

Awesome Kim...simply awesome :)))
