Knowing My Path

Clutching hot coffee mug in hands, I smile and dream. Full time news writing? Me? I could do that! … Ah, the adventure of chasing down stories and racing them in under a deadline… I blink back to the reality of our meeting and return coffee to table. “I can’t. It’s not for me right now. But maybe I can help you find others who can…”

As I drive home, I rejoice. I'm excited that I know what I am called to …and what I'm not. I celebrate God’s promised reward for passing up a great job:

“And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters
or father or mother or children or property, for my sake,
will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.”
Matthew 19:29

Okay, so I didn’t lose my family as others do in the world. But what little I did give up was still noticed by my Heavenly Father, and I celebrate that. I’m thankful that He has revealed to me who I am and what I’m supposed to do.

I love these promises in God’s word:

“Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say,
“This is the way you should go,”whether to the right or to the left.
Isaiah 30:21

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path.
Psalm 119:105

Sometimes – like in that meeting – I know the answer right away. I know the plan and what does or doesn’t fit; most of the time though, it feels more like guessing. I pray, read God’s Word, and seek counsel, but steps are taken in faith – belief that God is directing my steps. Sometimes it's only in retrospect that I can see how His hand guided me through or toward something. It’s amazing to see. God is good.

Jesus, thank you that you know me and love me. Thank you that I am your daughter and friend. I love that you go before me and behind me, and I’m so excited to know you and follow you. Sometimes where you lead scares the daylights out of me, but I love your mysterious ways. Your ways are higher than mine, and I adore discovering them. Amen.

Hi Kim,

"Sometimes where you lead scares the daylights out of me, but I love your mysterious ways." I am in awe of the glorious wonder of God's love.

At times, faith does seem precarious, as if I hang between obedience and fear, but I'm grateful that in those moments, God's grace touches me in a way that reassures.

I'm glad to know that you have that revelation from our Lord...go walk in faith and fulfill your purpose in Christ.

Blessings and peace.

It's wonderful when we're in such a place of peace and centeredness and connection with God that we just know which doors are open, which are not, which we're meant to walk through, and which we're meant to walk on by. Congrats on making the right decision!

It is good that we are so well known by the one who will still love us and not abandon us - God. And it is good to know he is directing our steps in ways that are good. Good post. wb

MTJ - you're so right! Those moments between obedience and fear are bathed in grace! Boy am I thankful for His grace even more, each time I straddle that chasm. I think it was Paul whose greeting said 'more and more grace... to you'. Awesome.

K.M Weiland - A friend recently challenged me to accept my role. She said my lack of peace, frustration and fear was basically my resisting God's will. She assured me that once I gave in to God's plan, I would experience incredible peace. ...She was right.

Warren - those are some powerful words - 'in ways that are good'. Sometimes what is 'good' looks frightening, uncomfortable or ugly - anything but good. When I shared my fears, a friend looked me right in the eye and said 'He is growing your faith'. Woo! She's so right. It takes faith to walk a scary or ugly path, trusting that it is good, or at the very least will lead to good.

Jesus never promised an easy life or one free of pain and tears. He said follow me, I am the way, the truth, and the life.

Way to go Kim for following his leading! I always tell myself, if it's not this or that, then God has an even better plan in store and that gets me excited and hopeful! :) The peace that comes from surrendering to His will is awesome!!
